Ashgabat is hosting a regional meeting on Dec. 19-20 to discuss the draft agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources of the Caspian Sea.

The top managers and experts from the relevant bodies of the five Caspian littoral countries - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan attend the meeting.

The Foreign Ministry and the State Enterprise on the Caspian Sea under the Turkmen President are the organizers.

"This is the second meeting of experts this year," the organizers said. "Their mission is to develop a draft agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources of the Caspian Sea, designed to create an effective mechanism of interaction between the Caspian countries in this important area."

The process of further coordinating the positions on all the issues is underway.

Special attention is paid to the regulation of fishing activity in the waters of the sea.

The Caspian region is now one of the most important geopolitical, economic, energy, transport and communication centers in the Eurasian region, experts say.

The Caspian Sea is the world's largest landlocked lake not connected with any ocean.
