NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has called on the Georgian president and prime minister to cooperate. He stated this at a joint press conference after a meeting with Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"Our meeting with the prime minister was very positive and constructive. Georgia is a close ideological partner of NATO. You have recently doubled your contribution to Afghanistan. You aspire to join the alliance and I welcome your acknowledgment of the fact that your government remains committed to this aspiration, "Rasmussen said.
According to him, the October elections in Georgia were free and transparent.
The secretary general called on all parties in Georgia to preserve and strengthen the democratic process. It implies respect for the rule of law, the constitution and democratic standards.
"The real test of democracy is the skill of forces with different political views to work together for the good of the country. As I told President Saakashvili on Monday, I encourage both parties to cooperate," Rasmussen said, adding that it is important for the Georgian people and Georgia.
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia in early October.
