Fight against terrorism is the most important and paramount issue for Turkey, President Abdullah Gul said on Thursday, the agency Anadolu reported.

He noted that if one doesn't consider the issue of terrorism seriously enough it will put Turkey into a dead end, which would be an obstacle to development.

The President noted that all Turkish citizens should make an effort to help to solve the problem of terrorism.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state has been on-going for more than 25 years claiming over 40,000 lives. The PKK group is recognised as a terrorist organisation by the UN and the European Union.
