Moscow hopes that changes following the parliamentary elections in Georgia, which resulted in the victory of the opposition bloc "Georgian Dream", will allow Tbilisi to begin normalization of its relations with neighbors, RIA Novosti quotes Russian Foreign Ministry's official representative Alexander Lukashevich as saying on Wednesday.
"Russia closely watched the preparation and holding of the parliamentary elections in Georgia. We consider their results as voters' assessment of socio-economic situation, state of democracy and human rights in the country, as well as policy of the current Georgian leadership on security issues in the South Caucasus," Lukashevich's comments posted on the Foreign Ministry's website says.
"It is clear that the Georgian society voted for changes. We hope that eventually they will allow Georgia to begin normalization and establishing of constructive and good relations with its neighbors. Of course, Russia would welcome such development," Lukashevich said.
