In the case of a terrorist threat on the Syrian-Turkish border, Ankara will do everything to defend the country, Anadolu agency quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as saying on Friday.

According to Davutoglu, the Syrian government does not control areas bordering with Turkey.

"Some terrorist organizations - the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and "Al Qaeda" can use it for their own purposes," Davutoglu said adding that the PKK has recently become active in Turkey.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for a year and half.

According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria is nearing 20,000.
More than 230,000 have become refugees with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
