Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman has denounced the European Union's
support for the Israeli government, calling on the international
community to put an end to Tel Aviv's "crimes".
EU Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton on Saturday criticized
comments by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who called Israel a
"cancerous tumor" and an "insult to humanity", calling Ahmadinejad's
statement "outrageous and hateful".
"Israel's right to exist must not be called into question," a statement by Ashton's office said.
On Wednesday, Ramin Mehmanparast condemned Ashton's statement and called
attention to Israel's "blatant violation of human rights, oppression,
and crimes" against the Palestinians in the past six decades.
"The Zionist regime [of Israel] and its Western supporters need to
be held accountable by the international community for their behavior,"
he stated.
The Iranian official urged international organizations and countries to break their silence on Israeli "atrocities".
Mehmanparast further reiterated Tehran's continued support for the
Palestinians' right to to decide their own fate and establish a
