Iran plans to build atonic power stations with fourth generation reactors, member of Iranian parliament's energy commission Jalil Jaffari said, Fars reported.

Jaffari noted that existing power stations have low-efficiency reactors, which need to be upgraded to higher standards.

He said the light water reactors (LWR) of second generation have 30 to 35 percent of efficiency.

The light water reactor (LWR) is a type of thermal reactor that uses normal water as its coolant and neutron moderator.

Thermal reactors are the most common type of nuclear reactor, and light water reactors are the most common type of thermal reactor.

Jaffari said Iran needs to substitute the second generation reactors with those of fourth generation, which have an increased efficiency of 45 percent.

He said that due to restrictions, some countries were prevented from fueling Iranian ships.

"If Iran can increase its enrichment to 20 percent, it would be enough for ships no to be re-fueled for 5 years," Jaffari said. "If we can make it up to 50 or 60 percent, then there will be no need for re-fueling for 20-25 years."

Jaffari also said that Iran is trying to solve its own problems under sanctions, and other countries should not be so sensitive about it.

He noted that 20 percent enriched fuel would be sufficient for Iran for its peaceful activities.
