A former defence minister Bacho Akhalaia will be appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in the new government of Georgia, press secretary of President of Georgia Manana Manjgaladze said at a traditional briefing on Tuesday.

She noted that the Georgian president has already approved the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers proposed by a candidate for Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili.

Former Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkin will be appointed Minister of Defence and the current head of the Agency of Estimates Hatiya Dekanoidze will be appointed Minister of Education and Science.

Dali Khomeriki will be appointed Minister of IDPs and Resettlement and Paata Trapaidze - Minister of State for Employment.

"We hope that the parliament considers new candidates in an accelerated form and discusses the government's programme and adopt them in time," the president's spokesperson noted.
