Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe have received detailed information about the election situation in Georgia. This question was central to the speech of the head of the Georgian delegation to PACE, Petre Tsiskarishvili, at the summer session of the Assembly.

Tsiskarishvili spoke about the legislative amendments adopted by the Georgian Parliament to the Electoral Code in recent years and focused on the military exercises Russia is going to have on the border of Georgia at the same time with parliamentary elections in October.

Tsiskarishvili said that the participation of the opposition and international observers in electoral events is a guarantee of holding elections without any inaccuracies. He said this during a speech at the summer session of PACE in Strasbourg, where he placed an emphasis on the pre-election situation in Georgia.

"The forthcoming parliamentary elections to be held in October are important for Georgia. We have already begun to carry out certain activities to ensure fair and free elections. Both representatives of the opposition and international organisations take part in these activities which is a guarantee of holding the election without any inaccuracies.

"We also invite members of various international organisations to the elections as observers, to make sure that mistakes committed during the previous election have been corrected," Tsiskarishvili said.
