Turkey strongly condemned the "unacceptable attacks" in Syria on Thursday, urging Syrians to make sincere efforts to fully comply with a UN-backed peace plan, Today's Zaman reported.
Two suicide car bombers killed 55 people and wounded 372 in Damascus early on Thursday, state media reported, in the deadliest attacks in the Syrian capital since an uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began last year.
"We strongly condemn this attack that caused civilian deaths and which is by no means acceptable," Turkey said in a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
Turkey further stated that its sincere hope is an immediate halt to violence and bloodshed, adding that people's legitimate demands should be quickly addressed. Turkey urged that the country display, what it called, the "genuine will" to fully comply with the six-point peace plan brokered by UN mediator Kofi Annan, without mentioning which side in the conflict it was addressing.
