Turkey does not believe in the words of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who said that he accepts the plan of special envoy of the UN and League of Arab States, Kofi Annan, the YeniSafak newspaper quotes Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as saying.

"Assad earlier gave promises to the Turkish authorities, however, he failed to fulfill any of them. We no longer believe in his promises," Erdogan said.

However, he expressed his hope that Annan's plan will work, and bloodshed in Syria, which continues for over a year, will be ceased.

Special Envoy of the UN and the League of Arab States on Syria, Kofi Annan, on Monday received Damascus's formal response on the plan of settlement of the Syrian crisis. Damascus agreed with Annan's proposal.

One of Annan's proposals is "stopping all forms of armed violence by all parties of the conflict under UN supervision, starting with withdrawal of Syrian troops from the country's major cities".

The document also suggests "ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to areas affected by armed conflict, and release of illegally detained persons".
