Along with Russia, Turkey is in talks with China, Japan and South Korea for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz told journalists at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, TRT Haber TV channel reports on Tuesday.

"Within the summit, negotiations were held with several countries on the construction of the nuclear power plant. Concrete decisions have not been taken yet," Yildiz said.

Yildiz also stressed that Turkey is close to signing an agreement to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes with Japan and China.

The Russian president signed a law on ratification of an intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on cooperation in use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in May 2011.

The agreement creates a framework for cooperation, including the construction of nuclear power plants in Turkey. It will also promote cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy in compliance with a non-proliferation treaty of nuclear weapons and promotion of Russian nuclear technologies in Turkey.

In late 2010, Russia ratified the intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on cooperation in the construction and operation of Turkey's first nuclear power plant at the Akkuyu site.
