Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that all the problems facing the region stem from foreign intervention, MNA reported.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks during a joint press conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad on Friday.
There is no deep-seated problem in the region, he said, adding that all problems facing the region originate in extra-regional countries.
He went on to say that the hegemonistic powers are seeking to dominate the world through causing problems for and division among regional countries. "They do not want us to make progress, but rather they want us to be always dependent on them."
"We should side with each other and preserve unity in order to achieve our goals," the Iranian President noted.
He also emphasized the need for regional solutions to the problems facing the region.
Iran believes that regional problems have regional solutions, and the trilateral summit between Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan has been held with the aim of finding the fixes, he said.
Afghanistan will host the fourth trilateral summit, Ahmadinejad told the press conference.
In conclusion, he thanked the Pakistani nation and government for the decision to host the summit and said that the Pakistani people are aware that they are in the hearts and minds of the Iranian people.
Before the joint conference, the three presidents also issued a joint statement, an article of which bans the three countries from allowing any threat to be carried out against each other from their soils.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the summit, Ahmadinejad and Karzai discussed various issues, including the latest regional and global developments.
Karzai said that the Afghan people will never forget the moral and material support that the Iranian nation and government have provided them with.
