A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey-Iran border region on Sunday Jan. 22, according to U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake occured approximately at 11:25 UTC, with a depth of 5 km (3.1 miles).
According to Istanbul's Kandilli Observatory & Earthquake Research Institute, the earthquake occured 69 km (42 miles) WNW of Iran's Khvoy city, 71 km (44 miles) ENE of Turkey's Van city, 122 km (75 miles) WSW of Azerbaijan's Nakhcivan, and 987 km (613 miles) E of Turkey's Ankara.
Earlier, on Jan. 20, an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale jolted Turkish Van city, TRT Haber reported. Accoridng to preliminary data, no victims and damage were reported as a result of the earthquake.
