Refusal to change the course of Kura river is a joint victory for Georgian and Turkish diplomacy, Georgia's President said on Friday. "Both countries have made the right decision as a result of difficult negotiations", Mikheil Saakashvili told journalists in Tbilisi

"There will be no change of Kura river's course, because we could not allow any negative actions towards Kura and the Turkish Prime reacted with understanding to our opinion, as a result, our diplomats were able to achieve a mutually acceptable solution", he said.

Meanwhile, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz, who visited Georgia on Friday, said that Kura is of great importance for both Turkey and Georgia. According to him, the Georgian and the Turkish side had important meetings on the issue, and the decision to be made will be acceptable for both countries.

Turkey was planning to divert some water from Kura to Coruh (Chorokhi) river as a part of construction of hydropower plants cascade on Coruh at the Gerorgian border.
