President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has signed a Law approving an agreement on security cooperation on the Caspian Sea. Under the agreement, the five Caspian states - Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan - will cooperate in fighting against terrorism, organized crime, illicit arms and drugs trafficking, smuggling, poaching, human trafficking and illegal migration, as well as in the field of maritime security.

The agreement, which was signed in Baku on 18 November 2010, includes a provision that security in the Caspian Sea is the prerogative of the littoral states. The agreement contributes to peace, stability and order and confirms the course of Russia and other littoral states in developing comprehensive cooperation in the region.
