Parliamentary cooperation extends ties between Belarus and Azerbaijan, said Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko at the meeting with Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Belarus Isfandiyar Vahabzade, according to Belta. A lot has been recently done for the development of the Belarusian-Azerbaijani relations, Vladimir Andreichenko noted.
Azerbaijan’s diplomatic service has made a considerable contribution to it. An agreement on cooperation between the National Assembly of Belarus and Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis was signed during an official visit of the parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan to Belarus in October 2009. “We signed this agreement to promote bilateral relations,” the Speaker stressed.
The Parliament of Belarus has set up a task force to develop cooperation with the Parliament of Azerbaijan. “This is a binding mechanism. We feel every success in our trade, economic, political and cultural cooperation since to some extent it is the result of our parliamentary activity too,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
He expressed confidence that the new ambassador of Azerbaijan to Belarus would contribute to the bilateral relations reaching a new qualitative level. He wished Isfandiyar Vahabzade every success on his diplomatic post in Belarus. According to the Azerbaijani ambassador, “this meeting can be viewed as a courtesy visit as it takes place after the presentation of credentials to the President of Belarus”. He pointed to deep friendly relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan. Today there are over 12,000 Azerbaijan nationals living in Belarus.
