The CIS Observation Mission had positive impressions from the changes to the Azerbaijani electoral legislation and holding of the transparent parliamentary elections in the country, CIS Observation Mission Head Sergei Lebedev said at a news conference after the election in Baku.

"We have been here upon the Azerbaijani leadership's invitation and monitored the election situation from Oct.18. The mission included 352 experienced observers," Lebedev said.

He emphasized a careful attention shown to the observers. Lebedev said the necessary documents and information about the electoral process have been freely provided.

Azerbaijan held the parliamentary elections on Nov.7. The voter turnout was 50.14% (2,480,205 voters), the Elections Information Center operating under the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) told Trend.

The Azerbaijani CEC reported that 690 candidates were running for the parliamentary elections. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
