The Council of Europe's observers will monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.

"A group of observers from the Council of Europe will pay a long-term visit to Azerbaijan in October to observe the upcoming parliamentary elections," Vice-President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told journalists today.

The parliamentary elections will be held Nov. 7. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

The Council of Europe will send two delegations to Azerbaijan to observe the elections - long and short. A short-term observation mission will be carry out monitors directly during the elections and the delegation will be represented in the widest composition - the representatives of the parties and the Council of Europe deputies, Seyidov said.

"Both missions are important for Azerbaijan and we do everything possible so that they successfully carry out surveillance activities," he added.
