"Council of Europe should pay particular attention to the restoration of the violated rights of the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs, a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Ganira Pashayeva said, talking with Chairman of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, Foreign Minister of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Antonio Milošoski about the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs.
"June 20 is the World Refugee Day. I would like to know your attitude towards the treatment of a million refugees and internally displaced persons, who live in Azerbaijan - a country which has no analogues in the world for number of refugees. One of the fundamental principles of the Council of Europe is human rights protection. Member of the Organization - Armenia occupied the territory of Azerbaijan - another member of the organization and over 15 years does not allow one million refugees and IDPs return to their homes. Armenia continues to violate the fundamental rights of these people. What steps are you going to take on restoration of these people's violated rights as Chairman of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers? Pashayeva asked.
Addressing the problem of the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs is an integral part of the settlement of the conflict, Milošoski said.
"I would like to emphasize that you raise another aspect of the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict - the issue of refugees and IDPs. I can say that addressing the problem and restoration of the rights of refugees and IDPs is an integral part of the settlement of the conflict. At the same time, through visits of Chairman of the Committee of Ministers to Azerbaijan and Armenia the Council of Europe should further expand its activities in this area. CE should provide political support for continuation of the dialogue between the sides, especially in solving problems of refugees and IDPs," Milošoski said.
