18 June 2009 [16:39] - Today.Az
"Armenian side is again raising tensions making untrue statements", said spokesman for Azerbaijan's FM Elkhan Polukhov commenting on the statement of deputy FM of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan about "nonconstructive position of Azerbaijan" in the Karabakh conflict settlement.
"In its statements and comments, Armenia often contradicts itself. It should be noted that Kocharyan has experience of parliamentary work, but his low experience in diplomacy is regretful as he makes such comments and this proves that he has no knowledge of the negotiation process in which he did not participate", said Polukhov.
"On facts that he presented in his interview, it should be noted that Azerbaijan has never been inclined towards using force, but at the same time Azerbaijan has never signed documents on non-appliance of force. The documents, speaking of the principles of non-appliance of force, were supported", noted he.
"If we speak of the Madrid documents, Kocharyan refers to, it should be noted that the Madrid principles have been proposed in a form of a document for discussion by presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan during their Madrid meeting.
I would like to remind to the Armenian side that the Azerbaijani president empowered to work at the proposed principles, which does not however means signing the document. Yet the Armenian side refused working at these principles. And when referring to these principles, the Armenian side should always remember how nonconstructive it was then", concluded Polukhov.
