Washington is currently studying possible broad cooperation with Russia in frames of missile defense, said sources US assistant secretary for defense Willian Lynn in the senate commission on armed forces.

He did not rule out that Russia could help the United States protect from possible missile strikes from the Iranian side. "We are viewing alternatives, existing in Europe, including variant with Poland and Czechia. We are studying possible cooperation with Russia, which might become a supplement to this "architecture", said Lynn.

"The United States works to define new spheres of cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of missile defense", announced Lynn, "For example, Russian radars are near Iran and they could be useful for the early notification in case of missile strikes from Iran".

Lynn noted that possible use of these radars located in south Russia (Armavir) and Azerbaijan (Gabala) will be discussed during the visit of US president Barack Obama to Russia, schedule for July 6-8 of this year.

The deputy minister also announced that the United States has not yet defined whether it should place missile defense elements in Czechia and Poland. He explained that the plans to set up US missile defense elements in Central Asia are just one of the considered variants. "We believe there are several ways to eliminate this threat (from the Iranian side).

One of the variants is installation of the interceptor rockets in Poland and a radar in Czechia. Naturally, this is one of the opportunities that we study", said Lynn, noting that "the final decision has not been adopted" about the future of the US missile defense system.
