An event devoted to the celebration of the Republic Day was held in Ganja
"Though first time the independence of Azerbaijan was declared in Tbilisi, the first steps were made in Ganja. The history is that the first democratic republic in the east was formed in Ganja, and therefore it was the first capital of Azerbaijan", said chief of executive bodies of the city Eldar Azizov, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan.
He also spoke of the importance of events that occurred in 1918 and led to the declaration of independence.
"Immovability of independence was ensured by Heydar Aliyev. One can see it when comparing us to the neighbors. And positions of Azerbaijan in the world are strengthening owing to Ilham Aliyev's policy. Today one can take pride in being a citizen of Azerbaijan", he added.
