Milli Majlis deputies accused the United States in the application of double standards to Azerbaijan, members of parliament Asef Gajyiev, Ganira Pashayeva and others.
"The United States applies the policy of double standards to us. Thus, in his recent speech on the occasion of International Day of press, President Barack Obama said that like in Zimbabwe journalists in Azerbaijan face pressure", said A. Hajiyev.
According to him, in the result of the West's policy of double standards the Caucasus today has become a very complex region.
"There was a time when U.S. President John F. Kennedy wrote the book "Why England sleeps?", Which stipulated that London remains silent at a time when Germany is developing the fascist government. Today, it is necessary to write a book "Why the U.S. is asleep?", Because the United States closes eyes on the fact that Armenia conducted a policy of terror, occupation and ethnic cleansing in the region", the MP said.
According to A. Hajiyev, at the same when Armenia is rudely violating the rights of citizens, including journalists, Western countries keep these unsightly processes outside their field of view.
"President Obama in his recent speech noted that the Armenians in 1915 were subjected to termination. Why did he and the Washington administration turn a blind eye to the termination of civilian Turks in Anadolu by Armenians, that the Armenian side pursued a policy of terror against the peaceful Azerbaijani population through years", said G. Pashayeva.
She also deplored the fact that Obama mentioned Azerbaijan among the countries such as Myanmar, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe, where there is a violation of the rights of journalists.
"It is essential that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan demanded an explanation on this from the U.S. embassy in our country. These statements have a negative influence on the international image of Azerbaijan. Involuntarily the question arises as to why Western nations turned a blind eye to human rights violations, which occur in Armenia, where the journalists are subject to serious pressure, where a policy of aggression against neighboring states is held. And at the same time, the West is holds an unfair policy towards Azerbaijan", said G. Pashayeva.
At the beginning of today's meeting, the deputies honored the memory of the victims of tragedy on 30 April at the Azerbaijani State Oil Academy in a minute of silence and the seventeenth anniversary of the occupation of Shusha by Armenians.
