"Russia welcomes any initiative in Yerevan and Ankara, which leads to normalization of relations between the two countries and the reduction of tension in the region as a whole", said spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Nesterenko at a briefing Wednesday.
"Therefore we sincerely wish to the Armenian and Turkish partners to succeed in this direction", said A. Nesterenko.
He added that Russia is closely monitoring the recent serious efforts of the Armenian and the Turkish leadership to get the ties closer.
"This is a real chance to change the status quo and pass the frozen relationship to a new constructive stage ... It is hoped that the positive trend will favorably influence the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh settlement", he stressed.
