The Azerbaijani presidential administration believes so far some opposition parties' boycott calls have not seriously influenced on voter turn out.

"Boycott calls have become opposition's bad habit that they cannot get rid of it. They have sounded boycott calls and decided to boycott the elections recently," Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Public and Political Department Head Ali Hasanov said. "However, you see, these calls have not seriously influenced on voter turnout. It means that their boycott calls do not have serious public importance."

The Movement for Karabakh and the Republic and Republicans group decided to boycott the referendum.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend the Constitution.

The New Azerbaijan, Shahar, Tereggi, Huquq Va Demokratiya, Vatandash Jamiyyati, For Long-Term Development and Zaka referendum initiative groups are campaigning for the referendum.

The referendum campaign began on Feb. 18 and will end March 16 at midnight. A total of 23,000 manat was allocated to every agitation group for campaign.

The Azerbaijani Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.

Some 170 international monitors and 47,000 local monitors will observe the referendum in Azerbaijan.
