International conference "Russia and Islamic world", arranged by the Center of Arabic and Islamic Researches in cooperation with ISESCO and a number of Russia and International organizations, finished in Moscow Tuesday.
It should be reminded that Russia is represented in the group "Russia-OIC: strategic vision" by Robert Markaryan, special envoy of Russian Foreign Ministry.
AS for the conference, it was opened by the speech of head of the Russian commercial and industrial chamber Eugeni Primakov and the letter, sent by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Speaking after him, Secretary General of OIC Youth Forum Elshad Iskenderov spoke of the activity of his organization in establishing cooperation between the young leaders of the OIC states and Russia.
Particularly, he stressed the importance of the first youth dialogue OIC-Russia, held in June of the last year under the auspices of President of Tatarstan M.Shaymiyev. Iskenderov also noted that Russia and the Muslim world have a rich potential for deepening cooperation, considering common interests in different spheres and absence of ideological obstacles, existing in the Soviet times.
At the same time, for gaining trust in the OIC countries, Russia should display political will to demonstrate real respect to sovereignty and protection of interests of Muslim peoples.
"Thus, Russia, as a participant of the International quartet as well as OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, should intensify efforts for resolution of the conflict in Palestine and Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan on the basis of international law and in the framework of UN resolutions", said he.
He also voiced confidence that considering Russia's gaining status of an observer under OIC, the representative role of Russian intellectuals-scientists, diplomats, public figures, representing Muslim peoples of the country in Russia will rise in the contacts with OIC.
