20 June 2008 [11:49] - Today.Az
Day.Az interview with Musavat party bashqan Isa Qambar.

- It is summer now and a total calm is observed in the social life. Do you think it a calm before the storm and the society will wake up within a month with a start of the election campaign?

- I know that the Azerbaijani society is not satisfied with today's situation. People are displeased with powers and at the same time, it should be admitted that today's interest of the society to political processes is not on the desired level. Therefore, the resenment with the situation is concealed and latent and not active. But it can outburst anytime. It is not excluded that it will happen before the presidential elections.

- Then everything will be according to Lenin -"Yesterday was early, tomorrow will be late- revolution must be held today!"?

- (laughs) Well, Lenin is not an authority for us! Though this is a fact that political structure should be able to assess the moment, hold the arm on the pulse of developments. We always try to do it and I think the Musavat party will manage to wake up and make the society idle before the elections?

- What are the advantages of the Musavat party, which allow it to do it?

- I do not want to boast, but it should be admitted that the Musavat party is the strongest party in the Azerbaijani society. Even the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party, despite its external entourage and declarations of about 500,000 members,  can not be more influential for people, that Musavat.

Our party has a clear structure in regions, broad experience of participation in political processes, experienced specialists on elections, defined idea and plans of improvement of living conditions. All non-partisan public polls prove that Musavat party is more influential in the Azerbaijani society and Azerbaijani people trust it greatly.

People trust us and this is the best achievement of Musavat. We are confident of our powers. I assure you that Musavat is able to win the elections if democratic requirements and conditions are adhered to.

- You was one of the leaders of the national-liberation movement in Azerbaijan in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Don't you feel that not all you were dreaming about has become true?

- I am a historian by education. I have never had a short-term optimism. As a historian, I know that situation would not improve if people are passive. Therefore, our activity for democratization of Azerbaijan and its territorial integrity is our duty. This is our mission and we will continue this work regardless of mediatory results. Our ancestors fought for Azerbaijan's independence and now we are fighting for it and I am sure that the country's youth will do everything for Azerbaijan!

- Now there is an idea of boycotting elections by opposition. Is it possible that Musavat party also joins it?

- When in October of 2007 Musavat party decided to participate in the elections, it was noted in the decision that we do not rule out possible rejection to participate. Now the party is preparing for elections in line with the confirmed plan for months, weeks and days. And this issue will be discussed at the necessary stage. I would say like this-we are ready for elections, but we do not rule out their boycott.

- What about your head office, they say, you are being driven out...

- Well, as you see I am sitting here and no one is forcing me out! If seriously, there was such an issue, as if the territory of the house building combined plant, we locate on, has been privatized. But we have not received any official or unofficial appeal on the issue. We are renting a part of the building, which we obtained by court decision in 2003.

- And the last, what is your impression about the recent peripeties with the results of exams and protests of parents?

- Unfortunately, we have serious problems in the sphere of education: corruption, law wages, lack of conceptual approach. It leads to the overall decline in the education level and a part of young generation is striving for studying abroad. Then they prefer to work abroad or foreign companies, functioning in Azerbaijan. The society is losing trust to our education and our specialists. In the result of it, people prefer to receive medical treatment abroad. This is a serious problem for the society, which will cause deterioration in the near future.
