Ganimat Zahid, editor-in-chief of Azadlyg newspaper, has gone on hunger strike this morning.
The due announcement was made by reporter's defender Osman Kazimov.
He said Zahid holds the action due to the established situation in Azerbaijan's mass media, release of imprisoned reporters, in support of imprisoned Eynulla Fatullayev.
The defender said touching upon Zahid's health that he has no complaints as to his health and detention conditions.
"The reporter maintain normal relations with the jail administration", the defender concluded.
It should be noted that Zahid is kept in Bayil investigation ward No 1. The Yasamal district court of Baku, chaired by judge Sudaba Mamedova, passed a verdict on the case of editor-in-chief of Azadlyg opposition newspaper Ganimat Zahid and Baku resident Vusal Hasanov on March 7. In line with the verdict, Ganimat Zahid is sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment and Vusal Hasanov to 1.5 years.
