An event on the 16th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy was held in the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Kars.
The Consulate General told APA that chiefs of Kars, Igdir and Erdahan municipalities and representatives of NGOs participated in the event.
The participants proposed to appeal to the Turkish parliament for recognizing the Khojaly tragedy as genocide.
On February 13, the appeal signed by chiefs of about 300 NGOs and municipalities was presented to the Turkish parliament and political parties represented in the parliament.
The appeal says that Armenians attacked Azerbaijani Khojaly city and committed genocide on the night of February 25-26 in 1992.
“Armenians committed genocides against Turkish people several times in 1920. Kars is not an exception. Therefore, we feel Armenians’ aggression against Azerbaijan. Armenians killed 613 people, captured 1275, 1000 became handicapped and 150 were missing. Millions of Azerbaijani Turks have been displaced as a result of the occupation of Nagorno Karabakh and other Azerbaijani regions by Armenians. Taking all this into account, we ask to recognize Khojaly tragedy as genocide and to appeal to the parliaments of all countries for withdrawal of Armenians from the Azerbaijani lands,” the appeal says.
