13 February 2008 [13:09] - Today.Az
Nizami Bakhmanov, leader of Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Garabagh, is against a joint conference of Azerbaijani and Armenian parliamentarians, considering it inexpedient.
According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, Bakhmanov explains it saying that Azerbaijan and Armenia are the members of the Council of Europe and deputies of these countries participate in the sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly.
"If lord Russel Johnston wishes, he can assemble them there for discussion of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Garabagh. There is no need to hold a separate conference", he noted,
Bakhmanov considers that PACE has adopted a resolution and recognized Armenia as an aggressor country, while calling the working regime in the so-called Nagorno -Garabagh republic separatist. "Therefore, PACE should undertake due steps to disfranchise Armenia in this organization", the head of the Azerbaijani community said.
Commenting on the current negotiation process, Bakhmanov said the year of 2008 might become the last one in the peaceful talks. "If the negotiations do not result in peaceful resolution of the Garabagh problem, it is senseless to continue them. I consider that this year will also be fruitless as to the negotiation process", he noted.
According to him, the only solution of the problem is the economic development of the country and consolidation of its armed forces. "We have both this factors. There is no other way out", he announced.
