"The United States are for breaking monopoly on natural gas supply to Europe, expecting Azerbaijan to play a key role in this process", the US deputy assistant of secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried announced in Washington during an international conference on relations between Azerbaijan, Turkey and USA and their importance for Eurasia.
D.Fried stressed the strategic importance of Azerbaijan as an alternative supplier of natural gas to Europe: "Gas reserves available in Azerbaijan are sufficient for laying alternative gas pipelines to connect Southern and Central Asia with the Caspian Sea via Turkey, thus ensuring viable alternative to the monopoly system of gas transportation and close investment climate for several of our European allies.
Creation of new energy alternatives and breaking of the closed monopoly transportation system will help reduce corruption. Azerbaijan must follow the experience of other countries rich in oil and gas".
