Press conference was held Wednesday on the anniversary of events occurred in May,2006 in Iranian regions where Azerbaijanis live.

Southern Azerbaijan National Awakening Movement (SANAM) Baku bureau spokesman Agri Garadagli criticized the policy of Iran regarding Azerbaijanis.

He said that thousands of Azerbaijanis marking events of May 22, 2006 underwent pressure by Iranian law-enforcement bodies.

Iranian security agencies arrested 500 people in Tabriz, 20 in Marand and 30 in Khoy. After the press conference, SANAM members gathering in front of Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan condemned the country’s policy on human rights.
Slogans such as "death to Persian chauvinism," "South Azerbaijan Turks' rights should be recognized" have been sounded in the protest action.

Then SANAM Baku bureau spokesman said that Sabail Police Office's officials did not allow them reading the resolution. Five of the picketers were detained and then released. APA
