Chairman of Azerbaijan's Parliament Oqtay Asadov met with Speaker of Bulgaria's National Assembly Georgi Pirinski and his accompanying delegation, press service of the Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan) said.
Oqtay Asadov spoke of the history of Azerbaijan's relationship with Bulgaria. He stressed the important role the both countries' presidents played in developing the bilateral relations. Oqtay Asadov touched on the Azerbaijan-Bulgaria inter-parliamentary ties, describing them as successfully developing. The Azeri Speaker said his country is rapidly developing, and today is one of the region’s leading countries. Asadov stressed Azerbaijan's increasing role in providing energy security in Europe. "We are keen to enhance our relations with Bulgaria. Bulgaria is a member of NATO, and will preside over the European Union beginning from next year. We believe Bulgaria will support Azerbaijan’s moves to join these organizations," Asadov said. Speaker also spoke of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, and expressed gratitude to Bulgaria for supporting his country's stance on this dispute. Georgi Pirinski, in his turn, said Bulgaria follows closely Azerbaijan's rapid development. The Bulgarian guest noted his country is keen to strengthen its ties with Azerbaijan, which he said stands on the path of democracy and is rapidly integrating into Europe. Pirinski added one of the reasons why he is in Baku is to enhance the bilateral interparliamentary relations between Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. AzerTAg
