The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export pipeline solved the issue of taking Caspian hydrocarbons to world markets, which plays a special role in the country/s development, an Azeri official has said.
"But first and foremost, when speaking of its political importance, we should note that no country will be able to pursue a policy based on the exports of Azerbaijan's oil," the head of the President's Office socio-political department, Ali Hasanov, told journalists Friday. According to AssA-Irada, he said the country will transport its oil resources freely by several routes it chose, sell its oil for the current prices in the market and then use the revenue to meet the needs of the people. "This is the most pivotal issue in terms of the pipeline's political importance. On the other hand, Azerbaijan, as one of the leading oil exporters, has turned into a country of tremendous importance for meeting the world's growing energy needs." Hasanov noted that the demand for oil in Europe and the rest of the world is growing. Azerbaijan's entering the market increases its political significance as well, he added. /AzerNEWS/
