Russian President Vladimir Putin received the country's newly-appointed ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vasiliy Istratov, on Tuesday.

As AssA-Irada informs, Putin said trust between the two countries has strengthened in recent years and voiced hope that he would hold an informal meeting with his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Moscow shortly.

"Considerable changes have taken place in the development of Russian-Azeri economic relations not only in energy, but also in many other fields," Putin said.

He called on Amb. Istratov to do his utmost to expand bilateral relations in humanitarian areas as well.
