Sohrab Eqbali, the prosecutor of Maragheh, admitted in an interview with the state-run daily Resalat the scale of the people's uprisings in the city and said, "Dozens of rioters were arrested in the recent events which came about following the publication of the insulting cartoon in the daily Iran."

According to NCRI, he said that those who were regarded as repeated offenders and "had a plan as well as the necessary documents and lethal weapons were arrested. After they were screened they were sent to prison and their files were sent to the judiciary for further review."

Faced with a growing discontent and protests in the provinces of Azerbaijan, Khuzistan, Kurdistan, and Sistan and Baluchestan, the mullahs' regime launched a widespread crackdown arresting people, especially youths.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international human rights organizations and personalities to urgently condemn the mullahs' regime and to take urgent action to save the lives of those arrested.
