The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security,
Josep Borrell, will conclude his term as head of EU diplomacy on November 29.
On November 27, the European Parliament approved the new
composition of the European Commission, headed by Ursula von der Leyen.
Borrell, who is finally retiring, will be replaced by Estonian politician Kaja
Kallas.
Kallas served as the Prime Minister of Estonia from January
2021 to July 2024, becoming the first woman to hold this position. She is known
for her firm anti-Russian stance.
The European Parliament has long been criticized for
resembling a mixture of a circus and a brothel – largely due to Borrell's
"charming" leadership. The EP has discredited itself in the eyes of
Azerbaijan, as European parliamentarians have entrenched themselves in an
ardent anti-Azerbaijani and pro-Armenian position. Their antics could easily be
included in textbooks on veterinary psychiatry.
Kallas, by the way, has not been known for such outbursts,
and even on sensitive international issues, she has spoken in a relatively
measured and professional manner. A faint ray of hope appears in the otherwise
chaotic environment of the European Parliament. We will soon see how the new
head of European diplomacy will perform.
