Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi on Tuesday expressed regret over "anti-Iran remarks" by participants in a seminar in Baku stressing such biased statements, made in presence of Azeri officials, are aimed at damaging the two countries' relations.

Talking to IRNA, he said Iran's stands and viewpoints regarding the issue have been announced in an official statement by Iran's ambassador to Baku.

"Tehran is expecting Baku's official response with regards to the incident," he added.

"President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's foreign policy gives priority to expansion of relations with all neighboring countries, including the Republic of Azerbaijan," Asefi said.

The spokesman said the Iranian government has always paid due attention to helping Azerbaijan to maintain its
independence, progress and development.

"Certain domestic and foreign elements inside and outside Azerbaijan are making attempts to create obstacles in the way of expansion of Tehran-Baku relations," he said.

These elements, he added, should be differentiated from Azeri officials.

Stressing that serious measures should be taken within the framework of mutual agreements to confront such currents, he warned that continuation of such moves would harm Tehran-Baku relations.
