Three documents on economic sphere will be signed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Baku on 21 February 2006.

The Azerbaijani government is preparing to sign an agreement on trade and economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation with provinces – administrations of Kemerovo and Sverdlovsk provinces, as well as administration of the Stavropol province.

The perspectives for expansion of bilateral cooperation will be discussed at a meeting, a government source told Trend.

Despite the development of legal agreement base between Azerbaijan and Russia the existing level of economic relationships do not reflect the real capacities of the two countries. To date there are over 90 agreements and contracts, 60 of which regulate the economic inter-relationships. With regard to stimulate the bilateral relationships it is necessary to intensify further efforts on optimization of the stricture of goods turnover‚ establishment of favorable conditions for cargo deliveries‚ development of communications‚ comprehensive support to the upgrade of trade-economic cooperation.

In 2005 annual goods turnover between the two countries comprised $1.2bn, whereas in 2004 the goods turnover was equal to $778m.
