The House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress adopted a resolution on Wednesday demanding the Azerbaijan to hold and fair parliamentary elections.

The document was adopted with 416 pros and 1 con.

The resolution was submitted to the Congress by three Republican-Congressmen headed by Elton Gallegli.

"The House of Representatives calls on the Azerbaijani government to guarantee full participation of the opposition in the forthcoming elections to be held in November, including the oppositionists who were arrested in the parliamentary elections to be held in November 2005,” the resolution underlined.

The document contains challenges to the international community and non-governmental organizations in the United States to ensure the sufficient amount of observers during the November elections in Azerbaijan.

Stating on the importance of avoiding any form of violence by all sides during the pre-elections campaign, on the elections day and post elections period, the resolution calls on the Azerbaijani authorities to guarantee freedom of word and assembly.
