43 % of the Armenian citizens consider that the integration of the country to the North Atlantic bloc is important.

Most of the persons thinking in this way substantiated importance of Armenia’s joining NATO with military alliance’s having the most reliable system for providing security. Each of three Armenians supporting Armenia’s joining NATO considers that it would be more expedient for all three South Caucasus countries to join the single security system together.

During an opinion-poll held by the Strategic and National researches Center of Armenia 53 % of the Armenians were against country’s entering NATO. 53 % of the NATO objectors consider that Armenia must continue collaboration with Russia in the frame of the Collective Security Treaty and solve its security problems in the frame of collaboration with this country. 25 % of the respondents think that Armenia can not enter the military alliance because it did not solve existing problems with Turkey which is the NATO member. 21 % of the respondents think that Armenia should not appeal to NATO, because the military alliance will not include this country in its ranks.

The Armenians also tried to determine the influence of the foreign countries on South Caucasus countries. So, 59 % of the respondents informed that Armenia is mostly influenced by Russia. As to the opinion of the Armenians, the influence of USA in Georgia and Azerbaijan (accordingly 67 % and 41 %) is greater. The respondents enumerated the factors forming foreign influence on Armenia so: a) the Nagorno Karabakhconflict (57 %); b) non-legitimacy of the government (27 %); c) foreign debts of Armenia; d) not observing the democratic standards (18 %).
