89 life sentenced prisoners and being kept in the Gobustan closed prison appealed to the president Ilham Aliyev with a request to reduce their punishment period.
This was informed to APA by the law protectors Eldar Zeynalov and Leyla Yunus. The prisoners informed in their appeal that the punishment of 128 persons sentenced to punishment by death was replaced with the life sentence after the punishment by death was abolished: “However, we do not think that all problems in this field had been solved with this change made to the law.
Thus, 89 of the mentioned 128 prisoners were pardoned by you with a demand of Council of Europe, 31 prisoners died with different reasons. 89 life sentenced prisoners are being kept under the unbearable and limited life conditions in the Gobustan closed prison. 90 persons sentenced to punishment by death in Bayil Investigation Jail # 1 passed away for being tortured and kept under non-normal conditions in 5th “death corps”.
The prisoners write that the punishment of the persons sentenced to punishment by death was replaced with the punishment of 15 years (20 years for some of them) of imprisonment. The prisoners who signed the appeal presented a list of the persons sentenced to the punishment by death for the crimes they had committed. Those prisoners request their works to be investigated by the Pardon Commission at the president and their “life sentence” to be replaced with accordingly 15 or 20 years of imprisonment. We should note that Elchin Amiraslanov, Safa Poladov, Arif Kazimov are among the persons who signed the document.
