A narrow format meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS was held in Sochi, Russia, Oct. 11.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev took part in the meeting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed President Aliyev.

A joint photo of the Azerbaijani and Russian presidents was taken, and afterwards the meeting began.

President Putin, making the opening address, said that the meeting’s agenda is rich enough. He stressed that the meeting will see discussions on further strengthening of the mutual ties within the CIS, and an exchange of views will be held on improving the effectiveness of cooperation.

Putin emphasized that the meeting will traditionally focus on the development of ties in the spheres of economy, trade and investments.

There are all opportunities for implementing new big projects based on mutual interests, said the Russian president. He expressed confidence that the meeting will give momentum to the expansion of experience exchange in the spheres of culture, education, science and tourism.

Afterwards, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev noted that the meeting’s agenda includes 16 issues. The submitted draft documents were examined by experts and were agreed with representatives of countries. Moreover, the documents relating to economy were approved by the CIS Economic Council.
