The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia will meet today in Brussels.

The meeting that will take place at 19.00 local time was proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, spokesman of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hikmat Hajiyev told Trend.

He said the meeting will focus on the current state of the negotiations to solve the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Last time, Mammadyarov and Nalbandian met in Moscow on April 28 within a trilateral meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister. The ministers continued discussions on prospects for the progress of the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and stressed the need to implement the agreements reached at the summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg in 2016.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
