Over the past 24 hours, Armenia’s armed forces have 92 times violated the ceasefire along the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops using large-caliber machine guns, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported onJanuary 1.

The Azerbaijani army positions located in Kohnagishlag village of Aghstafa distirict, Ashaghi Askipara, Gizilhajili villages and nameless hills in Gazakh district, Alibayli, Aghdam, Aghbulag, Kokhanabi, Munjuglu villages of Tovuz district and nameless hills in Gedebey distirict fire from the Armenian positions located in Voskevan village in Noyemberyan district, in Paravakar, Berkaber villages and nameless hills in Ijevan district, in Aygepar, Mosesgekh, Chinari villages and in nameless hills in Berd district, in nameless hills in Krasnoselsk district.

Moreover, the Azerbaijani army positions also took fire from the Armenian positions located near the Armenian-occupied Goyarkh, Chilaburt villages of Tartar distirict, Yusifjanli, Sarijali villages of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino village of Khojavand district, Garakhanbayli, Ashaghi Veysalli, Ashaghi Seyidahmadli, Horadiz villages of Fuzuli district, Mehdili village of Jabrayil district, as well as from positions located in the nameless hills in Goranboy, Tartar, Khojavand, Fuzuli and Jabrayil districts.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
