By Amina Nazarli Baku and Tehran have exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest, as an Iranian Interior Ministry’s delegation visits Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev received the delegation led by Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on October 3, where the head of state hailed the successful development of Azerbaijan-Iran bilateral relations in all areas. Emphasizing the importance of raising the bilateral ties to a higher level in all areas, the head of state stressed the necessity of developing cooperation between the two countries' interior ministries.
Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli extended greetings of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to President Aliyev. “President Hassan Rouhani noted that all efforts should be made to further enhance and promote the work in accordance with the agreements reached by the two sides. President Rouhani expressed his hope that these works would be successfully implemented," Abdolreza Rahmani said. President Aliyev thanked for the greetings of President Rouhani, and asked the Interior Minister to extend his greetings to the Iranian president. During the Baku visit, the Iranian minister was received by Chairman of the State Security Service, lieutenant-general Madat Guliyev. Guliyev spoke of the successful reforms carried out in state-building, socio-economic development and law-enforcement spheres.
He noted friendly ties between the two countries boosting thanks to joint efforts of Azerbaijani and Iran presidents that served strengthening of the relations towards ensuring security of the two states. The Iranian minister praised the importance of enhancing cooperation between the relevant bodies of the two countries for creation of favorable conditions for prosperous development and security policy conducted under the leadership of the head of states for progress of friendly and fraternal peoples of the two countries. Abdolreza Rahmani expressed confidence that his visit to the country would contribute to the development of relations between the two states, as well as the relevant bodies. The Iranian minister also met Azerbaijan's Emergency Situations Minister, Kamaladdin Heydarov, who spoke of the joint work of Azerbaijan and Iran done in this direction. Abdolreza Rahmani, in turn, said that the potential of mutual relations will create opportunity for expanding the cooperation. At the meeting with his counterpart Azerbaijan’s Interior Minister Ramil Usubov said Baku was keen to improve cooperation with Tehran in the fight against terrorism, organized crimes as well as human and drug trafficking. He hailed Iran’s support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity over the past 25 years. Rahmani Fazli, for his part, pointed to the spread of instability and extremism in the region and said, “Unfortunately, world powers are interfering in the internal affairs of regional countries and provide terrorist groups with political, financial and logistical assistance.” The Iranian minister emphasized that any kind of extremism is “irrational and unacceptable.” He further said Iran and Azerbaijan have secure border areas and called for more efforts to facilitate visits between the two countries' enterprises to expand their economic activities.
