Azerbaijan’s Defense Industry Minister Yaver Jamalov met a delegation led by Logistics Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces Tayfur Fikret Erbilgin on December 14.

The meeting featured discussions on the current state and prospects of the bilateral cooperation in the field of defense industry.

Military attaché of Turkey to Azerbaijan Ihsan Basbozkurt presented at the meeting.

The Turkish delegation earlier joined the eighth meeting of Azerbaijan-Turkey high-level military dialogue in Baku. During the event, the two countries' delegations reconsidered the current state of cooperation between the working groups in political-military, logistical security and defense industry fields.

The two-day meeting also featured discussions on the main areas of activities for the fulfillment of tasks.

Azerbaijan and Turkey's relations have always been strong due to their common culture and history and the mutual intelligibility of Turkish and Azerbaijani languages.

Baku and Ankara enjoy strategic relations in many fields, including the military. Military cooperation between these two neighboring nations dates back to 1992 when they signed an agreement on military education. Since then, the Azerbaijani and Turkish governments have been closely cooperating in both defense and security fields.

In December 2010, both countries signed a range of treaties provisioning for military assistance should any of the party be attacked by third party. Based on numerous agreements on joint military exercises as part of bilateral progressive efforts towards military cooperation, the Azerbaijani and Turkish armed forces have hold regular drills, featuring various tactical and combat tasks so far.
