23 September 2013 [16:30] - Today.Az
California State Assembly Speaker John Perez has refused to visit the
occupied territories of Azerbaijan, an informed source told Trend
today.
This testifies to the fact that the officials of foreign countries
yield to no persuasion of the Armenians and do not want to be included
in the list of undesirable individuals of the Azerbaijani Foreign
Ministry, who visited the occupied territories
Visiting Nagorno-Karabakh and other Azerbaijan's regions occupied by
Armenia uncoordinated with the Azerbaijani side is considered illegal
and the individuals who have paid such visits are included in a list of
undesirables of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, four foreign citizens who have been included in the list of
undesirables of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry for illegal visiting the
Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia, are excluded from it.
In their appeals, they stressed that they were fraudulently taken to the occupied territories.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since
1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding
districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are
currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions. /Trend/
