At present, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has no opportunity of creating common peacekeeping forces, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told Trend today.

Despite such a proposal being put forward in 2009 to restore stability and security in the countries' conflict zones which are OIC member states, some did not support it, the secretary general said.

"Therefore, the organisation is not able to implement it today because some countries did not support the project," he added.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation was founded on September 25, 1969 at the conference of the heads of Muslim countries in Rabat to ensure Islamic solidarity in the social, economic and political spheres, the struggle against colonialism, neo-colonialism and racism and to support the Palestine Liberation Organisation.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Central African Republic, the Russian Federation, as well as Philippine's Moro National Liberation Front. A number of organisations such as the UN and NAM have observer status in the organisation. The headquarters is located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
